Tour Notes

This is a perfect tour for a foodie and those who love the best of Provence off-season. Some evenings are free to enjoy at your leisure. The B&B in the heart of the charming small town L’Isle sur la Sorgue provides a luxury home feel.  In Aix, your boutique hotel is just a few minutes walk to some very good restaurants and boutiques.

Dietary restrictions would make this tour less enjoyable.

Itinerary

NOTE: This is a working itinerary; the final itinerary will be posted and provided to guests closer to the tour date.

Upon arrival we make our way to the Luberon Region where we’ll be staying for the first 3 nights.  A lovely B&B that feels like a home in the charming small town L’Isle sur la Sorgue.  From the B&B you have an easy stroll to quaint boutiques, antiques, cafés and the picturesque canal-lined streets.    After checking into our lodging, Emily will guided you on a historical tour of the town and you’ll have free time to visit the shops and antique flea market going on this day.   This evening we dine at a cozy countryside restaurant.

Cotes du Rhone wine with a view

Let the celebration begin…with a day exploring the Cotes-du-Rhone region and its wines; Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas & Vacqueyras AOC wineries.  Meet the growers, private tastings, walk in the vineyards, gourmet lunch, possibility to ship wine home.  Return to the B&B later afternoon for some R&R or choose to take a stroll in town.  Dinner this evening at a quaint bistro in L’Isle.

Day 3 (Tuesday, February 17)
truffle hunting with dogs

Today is our day to discover the black winter truffle in the high hills of the Luberon Region.  We’ll meet Nicolas at the top of the hill and he’ll drive us down his bumpy dirt road in his 4×4 car to reach the secluded farm house and truffle tree plantations.  After going out to find our truffles with his dog, we come back to the his farmhouse kitchen for the most unforgettable truffle meal you will ever have.  Later afternoon we’ll digest our truffles with a countryside walk amongst the ochre hills (in the village Roussillon) and also in the beautiful village Gordes.   This evening we have an olive oil tasting workshop…followed by a simple alfresco dinner. We’ll open up a few of our Cotes-du-Rhone wines form the day before to enjoy with our dinner.

Day 6 (Friday, March 20)
Cassis

Oh to see the Mediterranean blue during winter when the air is so pure!  Let us venture on the Calanques near Cassis , stroll the fishing port, take a boat out to the everlasting blues of the sea.  After our efforts of taking in the remarkable beauty, we’ll sit down at a café with a glass of Cassis white wine (AOC) to absorb it all.  The later afternoon is your free time to explore what you’d like back in Aix.  Perhaps the Hotel Caumont will be your inspiration with the winter exhibition on Alphonse Mucha.  Dinner on your own in Aix.

""I’m so thrilled that I found Emily as she added so much value to our 8 night trip to Provence. We hired Emily to assist with our transfers and added touring to our transfer days… Brilliant Plan! In the end we hired Emily for 3 of our 8 days. She is extremely honest, reliable and her prices are very fair. She accepts credit cards and does everything possible to ensure your comfort. Emily picked us up at Marseille Airport and transferred us to our AirBNB in St. Remy. She organized a unique an…"
""We had a wonderful time exploring Provence with Emily as our guide! With her intimate knowledge of the region, Emily was able to weave into the itinerary places of interest for which we had made special requests, and was able to suggest good alternatives when necessary.Emily’s deep knowledge of Provence came through best as she led us through several little villages — the little nuggets of information she shared along the way certainly helped us appreciate much better the history of the pl…"
"Emily, your planning from where, when and why to our overnight accommodations could not have been more perfect! The Provence region is a must see for anyone who is interested in history, breathless scenic views and amazing food and wine all of which you delivered to us on a silver platter.  You were an exquisite host.  I wish you many more successful years hosting future visitors to your part of France. Sallie Sullivan, North CarolinaOur group of 8 women had such a dreamy tour with Emily a…"
""I spent time on Google and found Emily’s Lavender Tours. Not wanting to drive this time around, Emily seemed to be the perfect solution. I wanted to spend some time in Sault, the lavender capital of Provence, as well as showing my family all Provence has to offer since most had never been there: Roman ruins, beautiful hill towns and incredible scenery, markets and lovely villages, castles and flowing rivers. Once our dates worked out with Emily and she got to know my preferences, we spent lots…"
"Emily was a matchless guide and driver. She was responsive to our interests in Provencal history and art and took us to fascinating sites that responded to our interests. Deeply informed and well read about many subjects, she could answer our questions with depth and thoughtfulness. She also had the confidence to say, "I don't know" when a question was outside her sphere of knowledge. She was attentive to details like pickup times and restaurant reservations. Above all, she is warm, kind and en…"
"Emily introduced me to a Provence that went beyond the photo stops along the way. I saw the region in the pride of the farmers who sold their products in the markets, the love of the truffle farmer and the olive oil producer for their land, the care that a top chef takes to make each entree perfect for the diner, the joy of the innkeeper to assure that every guest felt like family. But most of all, I experienced Provence through Emily’s eyes - a woman who still marvels and delights by how fortu…"
""We thoroughly loved your tour! Every day was packed with fun things to see and do and we were also given free time to explore on our own or just relax a little. You did a fantastic job of driving  us everywhere, especially through tiny villages and narrow streets. Some of the highlights for us were getting to meet locales, a wonderful boat tour in Cassis, wonderful restaurants, and unique hotels. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Choose Emily as your guide and you won’t be sorry…"
""Emily led me on a week long tour of the Luberon, her home, in Provence. Based upon my interests and ideas and her local knowledge, Emily created the itinerary for our week. Each day was crafted as a logical driving loop to explore a portion of this magical place. Emily’s expertise allowed me to experience what I was seeing as a 'temporary local'.  I would never have gained such an in-depth understanding as a tourist on my own. And I would never have seen as much each day if not for her expert…"
""Thank you, Emily, for all your help in arranging my trip and transporting me before and after the tour.  Also, the tour was so special.  I enjoyed it all.  You are a great guide to all the special things, places, foods, and experiences in this area of Provence."Diane Logon, Florida"Our group consisted of six women and one very brave gentleman with of a wide range of ages, backgrounds, personalities, and abilities. We toured the historic Chateauneuf Du Pape. We visited a Winery, Ala…"
"This is my third tour with Emily, so that alone says a lot. The itinerary is well organized and offers unique experiences. There is the right balance of activity and free time. Best of all the tours are fun!  You will laugh hard and eat well!! Eleanor Nazha, New York"
