Tour Notes

This is a perfect tour for a foodie and those who love the best of Provence off-season. Some evenings are free to enjoy at your leisure. The B&B in the heart of the charming small town L’Isle sur la Sorgue provides a luxury home feel.  In Aix, your boutique hotel is just a few minutes walk to some very good restaurants and boutiques.

Dietary restrictions would make this tour less enjoyable.

Country walks, trail walks, hilly terrain require a moderate level of physical mobility.

Itinerary

NOTE: This is a working itinerary; the final itinerary will be posted and provided to guests closer to the tour date.

Day 1 (Sunday, February 14)
Canaled-line streets in L'Isle sur la Sorgue

Today is arrival day…pick-up at the Marseille airport (Avignon TGV arrivals possible with cost of Uber transfer).  Upon arrival we make our way to the Luberon Region where we’ll be staying for the first 3 nights.  A lovely B&B that feels like a home in the charming small town L’Isle sur la Sorgue.  From the B&B you have an easy stroll to quaint boutiques, antique shops, cafés and the picturesque canal-lined streets.  After checking in, Emily will guide you on a historical tour of the town. You then have free time to visit the shops and antique flea market going on this day.   This evening we dine at a cozy countryside restaurant.

Dinner included

Day 2 (Monday, February 15)
wine tasting at Provencal winery tour

Let the celebration begin…with a day exploring the Cotes-du-Rhone region and its wines; Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas & Vacqueyras AOC wineries.  Meet the growers, private tastings, walk in the vineyards, gourmet lunch, possibility to ship wine home.  Return to the B&B later afternoon for some R&R or choose to take a stroll in town.  Dinner this evening at a quaint bistro in L’Isle.

Lunch & dinner included

Day 3 (Tuesday, February 16)
digging for truffles

Today is our day to discover the black winter truffle in the high hills of the Luberon Region.  We’ll meet Nicolas at the top of the hill and he’ll drive us down his bumpy dirt road in his 4×4 car to reach the secluded farm house and truffle tree plantations.  After going out to find our truffles with his dog, we come back to the his farmhouse kitchen for the most unforgettable truffle meal you will ever have.  Later afternoon we’ll digest our truffles with a countryside walk amongst the ochre hills (in the village Roussillon) and also in the beautiful village Gordes.   This evening we will enjoy a casual dinner at the B&B with some of our wines from the day before.

Truffle lunch & casual B&B dinner included

Day 4 (Wednesday, February 17)
cooking class Avignon

We are changing regions today.  Before making our way south to Aix, where we’ll stay for the next 4 nights, we’ll be immersing ourselves in the quaint town of Saint Remy for a hands-on cooking class.  Our chef will guide us through the market as we gather the fresh ingredients we’ll need for lunch. Then after a little cooking, learning and fun, we’ll sit down and enjoy the results of our efforts.  We’ll arrive at our Aix hotel later in the afternoon, with time to freshen up and relax.  After a brief orientation tour of the town, we’ll sit down together for drinks and a casual bistro dinner beside the famous Rotonde Fontaine.

Cooking lesson lunch and casual bistro dinner included

Day 5 (Thursday, February 18)
Patisserie class

This morning we roll up our sleeves to see just how talented we are in making French patisseries. Chef Clément will share his tricks of the trade as he teaches us the art of making delicate, delicious macarons.  The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your leisure in the heart of the city (where the workshop is and where the market will be going on until about 1:30 pm).  Late afternoon, we’ll meet in the hotel lobby to take off for a short drive to Sainte Victoire Mountain, the iconic landscape so often captured in Cézanne’s paintings.  From there, we’ll enjoy a peaceful 30-minute walk through the forest to one of the scenic lookout points.  Dinner this evening is at your leisure.

Meals at your leisure today…

Day 6 (Friday, February 19)
Cassis

Oh to see the Mediterranean blue during winter when the air is so pure!  Let us venture on the Calanques near Cassis, stroll the fishing port, and take a boat out to the everlasting blues of the sea.  After our efforts of taking in the remarkable beauty, we’ll sit down at a café for a seafood lunch accompanied with the famous Cassis white wine.  Before going back to Aix, we’ll take a scenic drive to the tall cliff, Cap Canaille, overlooking the Cassis Bay. This evening we’ll gather to eat at one of Aix’s quaint gourmet bistros.

Day 7 (Saturday, February 20)
Aix market

This morning we’ll meet our chef for a market tour in Aix, where we’ll select the fresh local ingredients for our Provencal home-cooked lunch.  Before arriving at his home, we’ll make a stop at a local winery to choose our wine to accompany our meal.  Lunch will be a leisurely affair, stretching into the afternoon and serving as our farewell meal together.  This evening, relax and enjoy your finals hours at your leisure.  Tomorrow your next adventure starts (transfers in the morning to Aix TGV or Marseille airport)

""Thank you so much, Emily, for two wonderful days exploring the Luberon region and Cassis.  You were a wealth of information, and we learned so much from you. Our picnic outside of Gordes was delightful!  We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect guide.  We highly recommend you to anyone seeking an authentic cultural experience when in Provence." Jayne & Steve Pettler, Prince George, Virginia"
""2019 Lavender Tour This tour exceeded all of my expectations! The small group size made it easy for us to get to know each other and each day was such a treat! Emily shared not only her love and knowledge of her adopted country but afforded us a glimpse into life in Provence. She introduced us to local chefs, farmers, and artisans and each was colorful and engaging and passionate about their chosen profession and excited to share with us. We visited beautiful villages and ate marvelous local f…"
""We thoroughly loved your tour! Every day was packed with fun things to see and do and we were also given free time to explore on our own or just relax a little. You did a fantastic job of driving  us everywhere, especially through tiny villages and narrow streets. Some of the highlights for us were getting to meet locales, a wonderful boat tour in Cassis, wonderful restaurants, and unique hotels. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Choose Emily as your guide and you won’t be sorry…"
"Truffle, Cuisine & Wine Tour - 2024 Yes, this is a food-focused week, which means excellent chevre, olive oil, truffles and plenty of good wine. But it's so much more. We checked out beautiful vistas, accompanied a farmer as he and his dog dug up some of the season's last truffles, visited a farmer's market, baked and cooked at the direction of talented chefs, and learned about Cezanne's testy relationship with his hometown of Aix. In between, we got to know Emily, who's knowledgeable ab…"
""Dear Emily, The moment you returned my inquiry, your response was swift, professional and warm, a cut above and refreshingly reliable! You provided us with a jeweled itinerary, nuggets of different rich landscapes, the unknown history which made the 'to do' landmarks interesting and fun. The hiking to discover the history, the flora, was an absolute highlight, cycling along the canal, your organizing of epicurean dinners. Not to mention the accommodation you recommended, an insight into…"
"It was such a pleasure to be with you again.  Thank you for your excellent service and guidance through all of our fun events.  Looking forward to another tour in the future. Jen & Janet, Canada Thank you for the wonderful poppy tours and the Camargue!  Once again, it was a vacation to remember with all the wondeful food, sights, culture and wine. Jake & Deb, Canada I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my recent, small group "Poppy Madness Tour" with you. I loved every minu…"
""From the moment we met, Emily made us feel at home in Provence! Her careful selection of wine tastings and restaurants were exactly what we were looking for.  Thank you, Emily, for making our 10-year anniversary trip exactly what we wanted it to be." Michael & Lauren, San Diego, CA"
"REVIEW: My wife and I love to travel. One of our favorite ways to explore new areas includes finding the best local guides for one day tours of larger urban areas but mostly hiring driver guides for multi-day trips thru large regions of a country. We always wanted to explore Provence so finding that perfect drive/guide was essential. My search found Emily of Your Private Provence. Although I could write a short story on our trip with Emily I will try to keep it short. PLANNING: I always work…"
""We had a great trip with Emily and highly recommend her. Before we arrived, she had designed a lovely tour of Provence villages just for us. Attentive to our interests and needs, she crafted an adventure that was a highlight of a trip to France and Italy. In several days, she introduced us to the history of these hill towns, the beauty of the rural landscape, and the feel of markets, twisty streets, churches, and Van Gogh’s world. Though we saw a good deal, she also made time for little mat…"
"To say our tour with Emily was perfect would be an understatement. The amount of thought and preparation Emily puts into her tours is astounding. Her easy going nature and good humor sets the tone for a group dynamic that is relaxed and fun. Each experience and meal lived up to the description and left us feeling as though we truly experienced "real provence." Not to mention Emily's transportation and interpretation services alone made the tour worth it. We will definitely return! Cristi &…"
