Tour Notes

This is a perfect tour for a foodie and those who love the best of Provence off-season. Some evenings are free to enjoy at your leisure. The B&B in the heart of the charming small town L’Isle sur la Sorgue provides a luxury home feel.  In Aix, your boutique hotel is just a few minutes walk to some very good restaurants and boutiques.

Dietary restrictions would make this tour less enjoyable.

Itinerary

NOTE: This is a working itinerary; the final itinerary will be posted and provided to guests closer to the tour date.

Upon arrival we make our way to the Luberon Region where we’ll be staying for the first 3 nights.  A lovely B&B that feels like a home in the charming small town L’Isle sur la Sorgue.  From the B&B you have an easy stroll to quaint boutiques, antiques, cafés and the picturesque canal-lined streets.    After checking into our lodging, Emily will guided you on a historical tour of the town and you’ll have free time to visit the shops and antique flea market going on this day.   This evening we dine at a cozy countryside restaurant.

Day 2 (Monday, February 15)
Cotes du Rhone wine with a view

Let the celebration begin…with a day exploring the Cotes-du-Rhone region and its wines; Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas & Vacqueyras AOC wineries.  Meet the growers, private tastings, walk in the vineyards, gourmet lunch, possibility to ship wine home.  Return to the B&B later afternoon for some R&R or choose to take a stroll in town.  Dinner this evening at a quaint bistro in L’Isle.

Day 3 (Tuesday, February 16)
truffle hunting with dogs

Today is our day to discover the black winter truffle in the high hills of the Luberon Region.  We’ll meet Nicolas at the top of the hill and he’ll drive us down his bumpy dirt road in his 4×4 car to reach the secluded farm house and truffle tree plantations.  After going out to find our truffles with his dog, we come back to the his farmhouse kitchen for the most unforgettable truffle meal you will ever have.  Later afternoon we’ll digest our truffles with a countryside walk amongst the ochre hills (in the village Roussillon) and also in the beautiful village Gordes.   This evening we have an olive oil tasting workshop…followed by a simple alfresco dinner. We’ll open up a few of our Cotes-du-Rhone wines form the day before to enjoy with our dinner.

Our chef Clément will teach us the tricks of the trade and of course we finish with indulging in our creations.  Patisserie workshop from 9 – 12 pm in Aix.  Lunch will be enjoyed at the workshop with the famous pissaladière we will learn to make as well.  A short drive will take us to Cézanne’s atelier where we can intimately step into the last part of his life followed by a drive to the mountain he immortalized, Sainte Victoire.  Some fresh countryside air will invigorate us as we walk among the pines and admire views of « Cezanne’s »mountain just beyond.  Time to relax back in Aix before dinner together at one of Emily’s favorite restaurants in Aix .

five star review
"It’s an early June day in the Provence countryside. After viewing the jaw-dropping and wondrous Monet/Rousseau exhibition at Carrieres des Lumieres in Les Baux, a delightful picnic for three is set up in a nearby olive grove. This was the start of our magical 4-day adventure with our phenomenal private guide, Emily Durand. From traversing the brilliant ochre quarries to walking in Van Gogh's footsteps in St. Remy to trying (and loving!) pork cheek, each day brought exciting new experiences in t…"
""Experiencing the lavender fields of Provence was just part of a fabulous week with Emily. From truffle hunting, olive oil tasting, wine tasting, visiting hilltop villages, to lovely breakfasts at an idyllic B&B, casual picnic lunches, and first class dining, Emily provided us with an off the beaten path adventure of a lifetime. Her knowledge of the history of the area made for an educational as well as rewarding and fun trip. She was well organized and such a delight to travel with in her…"
""Our guided trip with Emily was different from the typical tour of Provence. We wanted the trip to mostly involve hiking, but still give us an opportunity to spend some time in small villages. Each day we hiked somewhere and in the evening we were on our own to explore the various towns we stayed in.  Provence is a wonderful place to hike. In the north it looks similar to Colorado with exceptional scenery. Emily appeared to know every trail. We avoided the 'tourist' areas, usually hiking withou…"
""Dear Emily, The moment you returned my inquiry, your response was swift, professional and warm, a cut above and refreshingly reliable! You provided us with a jeweled itinerary, nuggets of different rich landscapes, the unknown history which made the 'to do' landmarks interesting and fun. The hiking to discover the history, the flora, was an absolute highlight, cycling along the canal, your organizing of epicurean dinners. Not to mention the accommodation you recommended, an insight into…"
""Hi, Emily I just wanted to thank you and let you know how pleased we were to meet you and were so impressed by the tour you took us on around Avignon! You were very warm and knowledgeable about the area and answered all of our questions. Your van was top of the line as well as your service!! I will not hesitate to recommend you to friends and family visiting the area!" Connie Schuler – Alberta, Canada "We had the best time with you on our tour of the Provence region! You planned out the…"
"Emily has an easy-going style that is friendly and accommodating. She delivered above expectation on all aspects of the tour, from market visits, accommodation, stops of interest, and restaurant choices. It was a positive and enjoyable way to see Provence for the first time. Martha Gingerich, CA The great sights and diverse immersive experiences that only a local will know better but not all can provide as well. The flavorful good food and lovely lodgings reflective of the rustic charms of…"
""Quality plus! Emily is very comfortable to be with, is very knowledgeable and is totally accommodating. Her Mercedes is very comfortable and adds to the pleasure. Provence is special and we can’t imagine anyone doing a better job of presenting it. Thank you." Ken & Sue Poorman, Portland, Oregon USA"
"I can’t say enough about our fabulous friend’s trip with Emily for 8 nights in Provence. Visiting the 3 regions was especially interesting to see their differences - from Mount Ventoux to the Luberon area and finally Les Apilles! Each was picturesque in their own way. The unique experiences Emily created for us were amazing from garden tours, cooking class, painting workshop, face cream making, galleries, private chef and walking tours. Her driving was so good from pick up at Avignon TGV to dro…"
""We had a wonderful time exploring Provence with Emily as our guide! With her intimate knowledge of the region, Emily was able to weave into the itinerary places of interest for which we had made special requests, and was able to suggest good alternatives when necessary. Emily’s deep knowledge of Provence came through best as she led us through several little villages — the little nuggets of information she shared along the way certainly helped us appreciate much better the history of the pl…"
""When I look back I do not necessarily think of the specific towns we visited as much as the special experiences and moments we had during truffle hunting, making chocolates, taking pictures in the middle of that beautiful flower field, and our hikes, walks and conversations. Thank you for arranging all this for us because they are certainly the experiences that made our trip so special. Most importantly, what I cherish is that you never made us feel like we are with a private tour guide. Yo…"
