Tour Notes

This is a perfect tour for a foodie and those who love the best of Provence off-season. Some evenings are free to enjoy at your leisure. The B&B in the heart of the charming small town L’Isle sur la Sorgue provides a luxury home feel.  In Aix, your boutique hotel is just a few minutes walk to some very good restaurants and boutiques.

Dietary restrictions would make this tour less enjoyable.

Upon arrival we make our way to the Luberon Region where we’ll be staying for the first 3 nights.  A lovely B&B that feels like a home in the charming small town L’Isle sur la Sorgue.  From the B&B you have an easy stroll to quaint boutiques, antiques, cafés and the picturesque canal-lined streets.    After checking into our lodging, Emily will guided you on a historical tour of the town and you’ll have free time to visit the shops and antique flea market going on this day.   This evening we dine at a cozy countryside restaurant.

Let the celebration begin…with a day exploring the Cotes-du-Rhone region and its wines; Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas & Vacqueyras AOC wineries.  Meet the growers, private tastings, walk in the vineyards, gourmet lunch, possibility to ship wine home.  Return to the B&B later afternoon for some R&R or choose to take a stroll in town.  Dinner this evening at a quaint bistro in L’Isle.

Day 3 (Tuesday, February 17)
truffle hunting with dogs

Today is our day to discover the black winter truffle in the high hills of the Luberon Region.  We’ll meet Nicolas at the top of the hill and he’ll drive us down his bumpy dirt road in his 4×4 car to reach the secluded farm house and truffle tree plantations.  After going out to find our truffles with his dog, we come back to the his farmhouse kitchen for the most unforgettable truffle meal you will ever have.  Later afternoon we’ll digest our truffles with a countryside walk amongst the ochre hills (in the village Roussillon) and also in the beautiful village Gordes.   This evening we have an olive oil tasting workshop…followed by a simple alfresco dinner. We’ll open up a few of our Cotes-du-Rhone wines form the day before to enjoy with our dinner.

Day 6 (Friday, March 20)
Cassis

Oh to see the Mediterranean blue during winter when the air is so pure!  Let us venture on the Calanques near Cassis , stroll the fishing port, take a boat out to the everlasting blues of the sea.  After our efforts of taking in the remarkable beauty, we’ll sit down at a café with a glass of Cassis white wine (AOC) to absorb it all.  The later afternoon is your free time to explore what you’d like back in Aix.  Perhaps the Hotel Caumont will be your inspiration with the winter exhibition on Alphonse Mucha.  Dinner on your own in Aix.

"Our travel group of 6 seniors spent 5 days with Emily in Provence. We hopped villages in Luberon, viewed chalk cliffs in Cassis, spent time in alpilles region and Arles and St Remy. Emily is prompt and very helpful in mapping our itinerary, making sure we have different experiences in sights and meals while there. She is punctual, professional , personable and patient with in depth knowledge of the sights and history of places we visited, always with good sense of humor. An excellent driver too…"
""Hi, Emily I just wanted to thank you and let you know how pleased we were to meet you and were so impressed by the tour you took us on around Avignon! You were very warm and knowledgeable about the area and answered all of our questions. Your van was top of the line as well as your service!! I will not hesitate to recommend you to friends and family visiting the area!"Connie Schuler – Alberta, Canada"We had the best time with you on our tour of the Provence region! You planned out the…"
""We had found Emily Durand on the web and had a wonderful time corresponding with her while preparing a detailed itinerary based upon our interests and requirements. She was very prompt and very precise in her responses which we liked very much. She was even more pleasant in person and we throughly enjoyed spending ten days with her in Provence. She knew the area very well including hotels/B and Bs, restaurants ( my wife is vegetarian but that was no problem for Emily!), parking and getting…"
"It’s an early June day in the Provence countryside. After viewing the jaw-dropping and wondrous Monet/Rousseau exhibition at Carrieres des Lumieres in Les Baux, a delightful picnic for three is set up in a nearby olive grove. This was the start of our magical 4-day adventure with our phenomenal private guide, Emily Durand. From traversing the brilliant ochre quarries to walking in Van Gogh's footsteps in St. Remy to trying (and loving!) pork cheek, each day brought exciting new experiences in t…"
""I used Emily through Your Private Provence to help me plan my small wedding/elopement and tours for my family while we were in the area. The experience went so smoothly in the amazing hands of Emily. She offered several options from vendors for the ceremony, restaurant choices, lodging, and tours throughout the Provence region. She thought of details for the wedding and the tours that would not have even crossed my mind! She was always in touch and responded promptly. She took into consi…"

""Christmas has come and gone. New Year’s too. Today is the Epiphany, the 12th day of Christmas. Many of us will start to de-Christmas our homes or already have. But we learned from Emily that the Christmas season in Provence starts Dec 4 and lasts until Feb 2. Emily shared her passion for Provence with us, its customs, traditions and stories. She even had little quizzes for us so we wouldn’t forget or get them all mixed up! LOL She planned every detail to perfection to make sure we had the best…"
""Emily worked  with me to create a personalized one-week itinerary that went beyond our expectations. She handled all aspects of our trip with a professional , low-key manner.  The hotels were outstanding and dining was authentic.  The luxury vehicle was very comfortable to travel in as well. Knowing we were a group of artist, she  allowed time to see artistic points of interest.  We plan on returning and will work with Emily again."Maria Caprio-Sunta"Emily was an amazing guide and…"
""We recently returned from France and wish to leave a few comments on our experience. At the top of my bucket list is a visit to Provence France. My husband and I are not world travelers and were somewhat hesitant about this trip, we were anxious about almost everything, the language, the travel and the fact that we were in a foreign country. Despite all these concerns we bite the bullet and decided to go for it. We booked a package with My Private Provence.Much to our surprise and delig…"
""Thank you Emily! I have to say this was one of the highlights of our stay in Provence. I will always remember that day and it was made possible because of your connections. Otherwise we would not have experienced that glorious day. It was such a “provencal” thing to do!!"Doris and Vanessa Cotric, Montreal "
