4 nights Saint Remy

Join a Christmas in Provence tour to explore southern France during the festive time of Noël.  There’s no better time to feel the spirit of community, experience the folklore traditions, and savor the flavors of local specialties.  This tour combines Provencal & Santon markets, a mix of city, small town and village atmosphere, as well as many opportunities to actively engage in the art de vivre during the Christmas period.  Enjoy group activities as well as time to explore (shop) at your leisure. 

  • Saturday 2nd
    • Arrival at Nice airport
      • Emily will be waiting for you outside of baggage claim for your transfer to the hotel 
      • The rest of the time at your leisure (with Emily’s advice of course, should you not be too tired to get out and explore)
    • 6:30 pm – we meet in the lobby for a short walk to our dinner reservation

Lodging in Nice 

  • Sunday the 3rd
    • Schedule for those who have arrived on Saturday (possibility of arriving on Sunday):
      • Breakfast at your leisure at the hotel
      • 10 am departure for the hilltop village Saint Paul de Vence.  Village stroll and lunch in the village 
      • 2 pm — for those interested, visit the Marc Chagall museum.  After your visit, transfer back to the hotel (or choose to walk the 20 minutes)  
      • Free time in the afternoon to roam around Nice at your leisure
      • 7 pm — Group dinner reservations near the hotel

Lodging in Nice  

  • Monday the 4th
    • Christmas in ProvenceEnjoy breakfast then we set off together to explore Nice
    • 10 – 12:30 pm morning history & gourmet food tour of Old Town Nice 
    • 12:30 – 1:45 pm — casual lunch with Nice food specialties
    • 2:15 – 5 pm — tour of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild (the beautiful gardens, not to mention the palace, are an oasis even during winter)
    • Return to hotel around 5:30 pm
    • 7 pm — Group dinner together – about a 10 minute walk from the hotel

Christmas in ProvenceLodging in Nice 

  • Tuesday the 5th – changing regions today…
    • 9:30 am — Drive to Aix-en-Provence (2 hours)  
    • 12 pm — Lunch together at the 18th century salon
    • 2 – 4 pm — Walking tour with local city guide, who will open our eyes to the details of Aix 
    • Free time for Museum visits or choose to shop the boutiques 
    • 7:30 pm — Dinner together in Aix

Lodging in Aix 

  • Wednesday the 6th
    • Christmas in Provence9:30 am departure from Aix for oldest Santon fair in Marseille.  Free time to see all the different Santon makers and roam around the port (fair located at the old port)
    • 11:30 – 2:30 pm — From there we’ll continue exploring the beautiful landscapes and city atmospheres around Marseille by taking a Tuk Tuk tour (we’ll get up close to Calanques – limestone creeks).   Lunch will be casual with sandwiches/snacks to take with us on the Tuk Tuk tour. 
    • 3:15 departure for our drive to our chef’s house 
    • Christmas cooking class followed by dinner
    • Return to Aix around 9pm

Lodging in Aix 

  • Thursday the 7th
    • Christmas in ProvenceMarket shopping in Aix (Your free time for Christmas market, textile market, flea market, flower market)
    • Lunch on your own following your market shopping
    • 1:30 departure from Aix to go to our truffle hunt in the Luberon.
      • 2:30 pm after going out with the dogs to find the truffles, enjoy a gourmet tasting & all you want champagne 
    • Return to Aix around 6 pm
    • Free evening (you may or may not feel like a dinner after all the truffle tastings) 

Lodging in Aix 

  • Friday the 8th – changing regions today…
    • 9:30 departure from hotel (bags packed)
    • Visit a traditional soap making factory and then on to exploring Arles — As we explore the town, we’ll be weaving in and out of Roman monuments and Van Gogh backdrops.  We’ll also visit the popular santon exhibition – one of the biggest and most detailed in the region.
    • On our way to Saint Remy we make a stop for the  Carrières de Lumières sound and light show in a former limestone quarry.
    • 5:30 pm –  Arrival Saint Remy, check-in to hotel and free time until dinner
    • 7:30 pm – dinner reservations in the town

Lodging in Saint Remy 

  • Saturday the 9th
    • Christmas in Provence11 am — Christmas folklore traditional dancing and flag throwing in Cavaillon, Emily’s hometown. 
    • 1 pm – 4 pm: Avignon: light lunch at the indoor food court (oysters and white wine if you like), Christmas market, and the best tea time ever in an 18th century mansion 
    • Return to Saint Remy around 5 pm
    • This evening is the celebration of lights in Saint Remy.  Your free time to explore the shops and get pictures of the lights
    • 7 pm — Dinner together in the center

Lodging in Saint Remy 

  • Sunday the 10th
    • Christmas in Provence9:30 am departure to go to the Luberon region
    • Two villages will enchant us with their natural beauty and unique anecdotes:  Gordes & Fontaine-de-Vaucluse
    • 12:30 pm — Christmas lunch at my house with my family
      • Digestive Countryside walk 😉 up on the hilltop next to my house – amazing views of all of Provence 
      • Last year’s tour we went to an evening concert…when winter schedules are released, we’ll see if there’s a concert for us 
    • Free dinner in Saint Remy

Lodging in Saint Remy 

  • Monday the 11th
    • Our last day to enjoy the treasures of Provence.  Gourmet adventures near Saint Remy:
      • Wine tasting & Olive oil tasting
      • We’ll also visit Saint Paul de Mausole where Van Gogh stayed for 1 year
    • 12:30 – 3 pm — lunch stop in the village Les Baux de Provence (and time to tour through this village)
    • 4 – 5:30 pm — Christmas craft workshop (make your Santon)
    • Farewell dinner together in Saint Remy

Lodging in Saint Remy 

  • Tuesday the 12th
    • Transfer to Avignon TGV for your train to Paris (or possibility of transfer to Marseille airport).
