Sometimes you really need a vacation, time to relax but also be inspired. The Lavender Lifestyle Tour is designed for you to settle into your luxury B&B, savor the tastes of the markets, the regional wines, & local olive oil. A time to connect with the slow Provençal lifestyle and the people who will share their craft, art and story with you. Of course we don’t stop there because the lavender is in full bloom. Explore lavender fields where earth meets sky, the lavender rolling up hills with Medieval villages in the background, and off-the-beaten-path spots for getting pictures showing secret Provence. Time to get away to let your senses be renewed.

Lavender lifestyle tour featuring lavender fields in full bloom

Tour Notes

The B&B is situated in the Luberon region, surrounded by vineyards and the scrubland forests.  Evening strolls on the grounds are dreamy.  The pool, summer kitchen, the comfort of your room and terrace…all is inviting you to unwind and live the Provencal lifestyle.

The tour takes place during the peak of lavender blooming. We will have lavender fields on every route and many opportunities for pictures in both the popular spots and also the more secret spots.

Itinerary

NOTE: This is a working itinerary; the final itinerary will be posted and provided to guests closer to the tour date.

Day 1 (Monday, June 21)
Saint Paul de Mausole

Pick-up around 10:30 at the Avignon TGV train station (or at your Avignon hotel should you arrive the day before).  We kick off the week of slow travel and inspiration at the vibrant sound & light show at Carrières de Lumière.  Here music and art will surround you in the former rock quarry.  Then on to tracing the footsteps of Van Gogh in Saint Remy with a picnic lunch on the site before visiting the asylum.  We’ll arrive at our « heaven on earth » B&B in the Luberon around 4 pm.  Relaxing time to take in the beautiful estate and settle into a magical week in Provence.  Dinner outing at a small nearby village.

Picnic Lunch & Dinner included

Day 2 (Tuesday, June 22)
top ten places to visit in provence

It’s market day in a nearby village called Saint Saturnin Les Apts.  The morning is yours to enjoy at your leisure with market shopping, exploring the castle ruins, or perhaps a little photography to capture this idyllic Provencal setting.  Then we move across the valley to a Luberon AOC winery for a tour revealing both the historical anecdotes and the aromas.  Catered lunch at the winery.  The later afternoon is yours to soak up the luxury atmosphere at the B&B.  Our dinner outing is in the charming hilltop village Bonnieux (time to explore a part of this village before dinner).  Our drive to dinner will take us by lavender fields for some pictures.

Winery lunch & dinner included

Day 3 (Wednesday, June 23)
lavender ice cream

Our first village today is Roussillon.  Here we’ll explore the ochre rich lands learning about the industry that shaped the village and landscape.  Then we make our climb to the High Provence Lavender region.  At the crest, we stop for lunch at a unique farm restaurant.  Our drive continues on in the High Provence lavender region taking us to a lavender distillery where we can see how the distillation is done.  Sault is the lavender capital of Provence, and before our descent back down to the Luberon, we’ll make a stop in the village to pick up gourmet desserts to accompany our alfresco dinner, poolside at the B&B.

Countryside bistro lunch & alfresco dinner at the B&B

Day 4 (Thursday, June 24)
Abbaye de Senanque

It’s prime time for tasting summer truffles and this morning we have an appointment with a truffle hunter and his dogs.  This is educational, fun, and oh so gourmet (did I mention all you want champagne?!).  The charming village Lourmarin isn’t far and we’ll be sure to talk about the powerful lords who ruled here and built their Renaissance chateau.  R&R later afternoon back at our B&B until our dinner outing.  This evening we go to Gordes (after the mass of tourists have left)…photos at the iconic Abbaye de Senanque and then a surprise dinner in a secret garden in the village.

Truffle hunt tasting & Dinner included

Day 5 (Friday, June 25)
Oppede-le-Vieux

Our gourmet activity today is around olive oil. We leave the Luberon mountains, cross the river valley, and nestle up close the Alpilles mountains.  We will be greeted by a team of passionate olive oil masters, going out in the groves with the 4x4s and embarking on a heavenly tasting of different oils paired with food. We have a light lunch, aperitif style, at an artist’s workshop.  This beautiful workshop, inspiring art, a heartwarming story of an artist who adopted Provence as her home, gets us ready for our own art story – Saturday’s painting adventure!  Before heading back to the B&B for a lovely catered dinner by a top chef, we’ll explore the charming village Oppede-le-Vieux.

Lunch & Dinner included

Day 6 (Saturday, June 26)
Provence table

This morning we put our lavender inspiration to the canvas.  We will be led by a local artist to do a plein-air painting in a lavender field.  Next, we journey on to the quaint village of L’Isle Sur la Sorgue.  Legends and a rich industrial heritage with water canals winding through makes this place unique in Provence.   Lunch next to the river at an épicerie (local spreads, cheeses, charcuterie and salad).  Free time after lunch to boutique shop (antique shops and other quality Provencal products).  Back at the B&B, enjoy some free time to cool off at the pool and do your packing (yes, tomorrow is departure day).  Our farewell dinner at one last quaint Provencal village.

Lunch & dinner included

""Thank you Emily! I have to say this was one of the highlights of our stay in Provence. I will always remember that day and it was made possible because of your connections. Otherwise we would not have experienced that glorious day. It was such a “provencal” thing to do!!" Doris and Vanessa Cotric, Montreal "
""We had a wonderful time exploring Provence with Emily as our guide! With her intimate knowledge of the region, Emily was able to weave into the itinerary places of interest for which we had made special requests, and was able to suggest good alternatives when necessary. Emily’s deep knowledge of Provence came through best as she led us through several little villages — the little nuggets of information she shared along the way certainly helped us appreciate much better the history of the pl…"
""We had found Emily Durand on the web and had a wonderful time corresponding with her while preparing a detailed itinerary based upon our interests and requirements. She was very prompt and very precise in her responses which we liked very much. She was even more pleasant in person and we throughly enjoyed spending ten days with her in Provence. She knew the area very well including hotels/B and Bs, restaurants ( my wife is vegetarian but that was no problem for Emily!), parking and getting…"
""2019 Lavender Tour This tour exceeded all of my expectations! The small group size made it easy for us to get to know each other and each day was such a treat! Emily shared not only her love and knowledge of her adopted country but afforded us a glimpse into life in Provence. She introduced us to local chefs, farmers, and artisans and each was colorful and engaging and passionate about their chosen profession and excited to share with us. We visited beautiful villages and ate marvelous local f…"
"I can’t say enough about our fabulous friend’s trip with Emily for 8 nights in Provence. Visiting the 3 regions was especially interesting to see their differences - from Mount Ventoux to the Luberon area and finally Les Apilles! Each was picturesque in their own way. The unique experiences Emily created for us were amazing from garden tours, cooking class, painting workshop, face cream making, galleries, private chef and walking tours. Her driving was so good from pick up at Avignon TGV to dro…"
"It’s an early June day in the Provence countryside. After viewing the jaw-dropping and wondrous Monet/Rousseau exhibition at Carrieres des Lumieres in Les Baux, a delightful picnic for three is set up in a nearby olive grove. This was the start of our magical 4-day adventure with our phenomenal private guide, Emily Durand. From traversing the brilliant ochre quarries to walking in Van Gogh's footsteps in St. Remy to trying (and loving!) pork cheek, each day brought exciting new experiences in t…"
"The Truffles, Wine, and Provencal Cuisine tour was fantastic.  Emily has an in-depth knowledge of Provence, and it shows.  From the accommodations to the daily excursions, everything was top-notch and well-planned.  We had a very small group, only 3 of us and Emily; it felt like we were on a fun girl's trip.  She invited her son and husband to dine with us on several occasions, which made us feel like we were friends of the family.  The truffle tour was a unique, educational, and gourmet experi…"
""This summer my wife and I had the pleasure of being introduced to Provence by Emily Durand. It was truly amazing. Emily’s attentiveness and insights to the history and culture made Provence our favorite portion of a four-week eight-country trip. We had the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation taking in the ruggedly beautiful terrain and sampling the best food I have ever had. Thank you Emily we look forward to our next trip to Southern France with Your Private Provence." Peter & A…"
"REVIEW: My wife and I love to travel. One of our favorite ways to explore new areas includes finding the best local guides for one day tours of larger urban areas but mostly hiring driver guides for multi-day trips thru large regions of a country. We always wanted to explore Provence so finding that perfect drive/guide was essential. My search found Emily of Your Private Provence. Although I could write a short story on our trip with Emily I will try to keep it short. PLANNING: I always work…"
"To say our tour with Emily was perfect would be an understatement. The amount of thought and preparation Emily puts into her tours is astounding. Her easy going nature and good humor sets the tone for a group dynamic that is relaxed and fun. Each experience and meal lived up to the description and left us feeling as though we truly experienced "real provence." Not to mention Emily's transportation and interpretation services alone made the tour worth it. We will definitely return! Cristi &…"
