Spring in Provence

Your Retreat dates have been strategically planned to give you the full sensation of resourcing and energizing. Spring is all about new beginnings. The wild flowers at this time are a true beauty – a delight for the eye and harmony to the soul. Provence is a popular tourist destination but during your retreat dates you will not have crowds of tourist. The magical beauty of Provence and its historical masterpieces will be reserved uniquely for you.

What will you see

Three distinct areas of Provence will be discovered
  • The Ventoux – known by many through the Tour de France
  • The Luberon – made famous partly by Peter Mayle’s book A Year in Provence
  • The Alpilles – where many of Van Gogh’s paintings were inspired.
Popular places such as Arles, St. Rémy, Le Pont du Gard, Gordes, Lourmarin will be on the itinerary. A detailed Itinerary will be given after sign-up.

Days 1-3

Wednesday 25th – Day 1

Arrival in the afternoon at the Avignon TGV train station.

Short drive (30 min.) to Chateauneuf-du-Pape for a walking tour of the village and hilltop fortress, followed by a time to get to know each other at Domaine de Nalys – one of the oldest estates in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

  • A little wine tasting, a special surprise and a warm introduction into the intention of the Energize! Retreat.

Around 5pm we will make our way to our B&B (45 min drive) to relax and freshen up before our B&B dinner together (dinner at the B&B with the owners who happen to be fabulous cooks!)

Lodging:  La Madelène in Malaucène (12th century priory elegantly turned into a B&B)

Thursday 26th– Day 2

Departure after breakfast at 9:40 to make our way (a little over an hours’ drive) to the Pont du Gard (Roman aqueduct and UNESCO World Heritage Site). From 11 to 12:30 a historian will transport us into the fascinating Roman life of the site.   For lunch, we will find a picturesque spot to admire the landscape and eat our first Provencal picnic (weather providing).   Free time after lunch to go back to the museum or just wander around the countryside.

Dinner is again at the B&B with our fabulous hosts. As we wrap up the day over a glass of wine before dinner, Joanne will share a personal renewal map to guide your retreat journey and help you set your personal intention.

Lodging:  La Madelène in Malaucène

Friday 27th– Day 3

Departure today will be a little later. You may decide to take a walk among the cherry orchards and vineyards before the day’s tour starts. Or perhaps you will have one-on-one time with Joanne. At 10:30 we will dive into a very intriguing look at the Provencal wine region. Philip, our B&B host, will teach us some very interesting facts about the renowned wines from the region. He will then take us to his dear friend and owner of the Domaine Le Clos de Caveau for a VIP tour of his organic vineyard followed by a tasting of his wines AND a gourmet lunch (he happens to be a fabulous chef himself).

After our extraordinary catered lunch at the winery we will venture into a small village to roam the cobblestone streets (and maybe find a sunny spot to sit for a Provencal nap).

We’ll have time to go back to the B&B to freshen up (and have some personal coaching time with Joanne) before our dinner outing in a nearby medieval town for a little French Bistro cuisine and ambiance.

Lodging:  La Madelène in Malaucène

Days 4-6

Saturday 28th – Day 4

After breakfast and some group coaching time to check-in on your energy, we will say goodbye to our hosts and set off to another region in Provence, the Luberon. En route we will stop at a fascinating village, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, known for its mystery water source. The river is enchanting and you will see where your retreat surprise was made. Lunch is on your own in this village. You may decide to just grab a crepe or sandwich and eat on a bench. There are also restaurant options. You are free to roam this village, hike to the source, hike up to the castle ruins or even visit a history museum, as you want. This might be a good time to have your one-on-one time with Joanne.

After lunch and exploring to your heart’s content we will continue our drive into the Luberon to reach our next accommodation in a hilltop village called Bonnieux. You can settle into your room and then set off by foot into the village (the hotel is in the heart of the village). We will meet up again around 7pm to drive to our dinner reservation in a neighboring village (one of my favorite restaurants). Joanne will hold a coaching workshop on crafting your personal vision from 6 to 7 in the hotel lobby.

Lodging:  Bonnieux, Le Clos du Buis (hotel de charm 3 *)

Sunday 29th – Day 5

10am departure time for the ochre of the Luberon. A morning walk in the ochre lands is a dazzling way to start the day! Fresh air, the quietness of the morning, the vibrant colors, a quaint village and views of the valley below will wake up all your senses. At breakfast, Joanne will inspire you to actualize your personal vision and provide tools to make it happen. Next stop is a local farmer’s market to pick up some goodies for our picnic lunch. You will each have a “food” mission at the market to share at our picnic lunch. From the market we will drive a short distance to the start of one of my all time favorite hikes (moderate hike that can be shortened for some or longer for others). Provencal picnic among the olive trees and ancient stone huts will be shared along the way.

After enjoying the countryside we will venture into the village nearby, Gordes. This is also where we have our cooking lesson followed by dinner (cooking lesson starting at 4pm). For those who wish, I can give you a historical walking tour of the village. Others may wish to shop (some nice boutiques, a little touristy but quaint).

Monday 30th – Day 5

Today we set out to discover the third (and final) region on the itinerary; the region commonly known as Van Gogh’s Provencal homeland. While leaving the Luberon we’ll take the scenic route through the hills and stop at a few of my favorite spots to appreciate the views and architectural wonders. For lunch, surprise, catered picnic in my hometown with a game of Pétanque (French ball game). From the hilltop where we will munch on Provencal goodies next to a sheepfold for lunch, we will take a leisurely walk to see Provence from the east, west, north and south. This is the perfect place to see where you have been and where you are going as you reflect on your personal vision!

Dinner this evening will be at our hotel in Saint-Rémy de Provence (a 30 min. drive from our picnic spot). Cocktail hour will be accompanied by coaching with Joanne to help you uncover any obstacles in your path to manifesting your personal vision.

Lodging:  Saint-Remy de Provence, Le Mas de Carassin 3*

Days 7-9

Tuesday 31st – Day 7

Departure around 10 for the little Rome of France, Arles. Before we depart, you may want to spend some personal time with Joanne gaining clarity about your pathway moving forward as you continue to put your vision into action. At 11am we have a 1-hour guided tour of the city with a local historian. This will also give you a good feel for the layout of the little city so you can explore at your leisure until 3pm. Enjoy your lunch at one of the recommended restaurants highlighted on your personal map of the city.

On our drive back we will take the scenic route and stop at a unique place where you will either have the option of a little hike or a tour of an old quarry that has been turned into a sound and light show displaying famous artwork in 360° – very captivating and inspiring! Then, just before arriving back at the hotel, we will be hosted at a local winery and olive oil grove. A tasting of the wine and the olive oil accompanied with some little toasts spread with tapenade will bring the afternoon to a memorable end.

Dinner this evening at the hotel – come to cocktail hour for a final group coaching session on ways to sustain your energy as you re-enter your daily life.

Lodging:  Saint-Remy de Provence, Le Mas de Carassin 3*

Wednesday 1st – Day 8

Free day. Design the day as you wish.

  • Make an appointment with Joanne to wrap up your coaching sessions
  • Set up your appointment for a massage (your guide will set that up for you)
  • Tour the local market – It’s market day in Saint-Rémy!
  • Enjoy lunch at one of my favorite restaurants
  • Shop for your gifts to take home – or for you
  • Trace the footsteps of Van Gogh
  • Go for a hike (hillside and village are both close by)
  • Visit the local art museum and/or the ruins of an ancient Roman city
  • 3:40 pm – departure from hotel to cooking lesson in a fabulous art studio by a well- known chef! Dinner follows the lesson.
Thursday 2nd – Day 9

Farewell breakfast and group check-out to voice ongoing support for your journey as well as the journey of the other women. This tour has ended, but your personal exploration continues. Energize!

Trips do not end when you return home – usually this is the time when in a sense they really begin.

    Bonjour Cristina,
Thank you for your interest in the Energize! Provence retreat. Yes, Joanne and I are already forecasting the next retreat due to all the excitement and interest generated. As for you (and your friends), would you be more prone for a spring retreat (late March) or a fall retreat (mid-Oct.)?
    Thanks for your feedback –
