March 2023 – A few days in Provence
We had the trip of a lifetime with Emily! She was friendly, fun, very knowledgeable, bilingual and a very safe driver. She took us to some of the most picturesque places in Provence and even accompanied me to the doctor’s office for an emergency, AND was my translator with the doctor! She went above and beyond! Her kindness and expertise were 5 stars. We did not want to rent a car because we didn’t know the roads and having her in the driver’s seat in her beautiful van made the journey stress- free. My favorite part of the tour was sitting in beautiful Cassis at a cafe, watching the sparkling blue sea and just chatting with her about France. She is a wonderful human and I cannot recommend her more highly!

Christmas Tour 2022
Christmas has come and gone. New Year’s too. Today is the Epiphany, the 12th day of Christmas. Many of us will start to de-Christmas our homes or already have. But we learned from Emily that the Christmas season in Provence starts Dec 4 and lasts until Feb 2. Emily shared her passion for Provence with us, it’s customs, traditions and stories. She even had little quizzes for us so we wouldn’t forget or get them all mixed up! LOL She planned every detail to perfection to make sure we had the best and most memorable Christmas in Provence tour. Charming hotels, Provençal lunches, a courtyard afternoon tea, gourmet dinners with regional wines. Fabulous city guides and even a Tuk tuk tour and picnic lunch by the sea. Christmas, farmers and flower markets bursting with colour and bustling with fun shopping for fruits and nuts to recreate the Thirteen Desserts when we returned home. Searching for Vin Cuit. Magical hilltop villages with lovely shops, starting our Santons collections. Museums, a light show, a concert. Truffle hunting and tasting with champagne. Stamping our own Marseille soap at the oldest 120 year old factory. The BEST 4 minute Christmas night parade EVER! Santons…did I mention Santons? We love them!
LOL And even a few Christmas miracles along the way. l could go on and on but I don’t want to give away all the secrets Emily has planned for you on this wonderful tour. She is the very best host/guide you could ever hope for. Caring, calm and you’ll leave Provence with an amazing new friend. Thank you, Emily, for the most memorable time in your most perfect Provence. It won’t be long before I return!

High Provence Lavender Tour – July 2022
Finally third time was a charm! I found Emily while looking for trips to Provence to see the beautiful fields of lavender. I sent my deposit for 2020 and Covid happened so transferred it to 2021 and things were still crazy but finally 2022. There were 5 of us in our group, my daughter decided to join me and then my grand daughter joined in, and finally the lovely Carroll’s Jill and Greg. We had so much fun, so much wine and so many laughs. We showed the French how to party before midnight the night before Bastille Day, found out we could not sing La Marseillaise worth a darn and went truffle hunting, our sweet truffle hunting dog found one so we learned how to eat truffles and had a cooking lesson from a delightful French chef! We did so much more, it was truly a memorable trip. Much of the Lavender had been harvested early due to drought but we still saw some beautiful fields. I would love to return one day! Emily is truly a wonderful host and fun travel buddy.

This small group tour with Emily was perfect for us. We’ve always toured on our own, so if we were going to book a tour, we wanted a more personal and thoughtful tour with someone who knew Provence and could share their knowledge of the area with us. Not only did we get someone with knowledge but we got someone who had a love for what she did. We truly felt like we wee on a tour with a close friend who was sharing her love for the area with her clients.
We had great expectations going into this trip because we had always done our own research, developed an itinerary and made our own arrangements. July 2022 Provence Lavender Tour
Experiencing the lavender fields of Provence was just part of a fabulous week with Emily. From truffle hunting, olive oil tasting, wine tasting, visiting hilltop villages, to lovely breakfasts at an idyllic B&B, casual picnic lunches, and first class dining, Emily provided us with an off the beaten path adventure of a lifetime. Her knowledge of the history of the area made for an educational as well as rewarding and fun trip. She was well organized and such a delight to travel with in her comfortable van. I would highly recommend any of her tours to anyone wanting to visit Provence.

I went to Provence and I saw…some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Field after field of lavender and sunflowers. Charming villages and shops. The most incredible B&B owned by a charming couple (and Owen). Wonderful women to share the experience with. And, most of all, Emily – a natural, laid back guide who took exquisite care of us and crafted an incredible itinerary!
I highly recommend taking one of Emily’s tours and will refer her to anyone who tells me they are interested in visiting Provence. Her itinerary was well curated to give us the opportunity to experience more than just lavender and wine – which, I assure you, there were plenty of both. The end of our tour came too quickly and it was difficult to say goodbye to this idyllic countryside as well as the new friends made.

The best way to live out your dreams of summertime in Provence during lavender season is to explore with Emily! April Artist Tour 2022
Emily worked with me to create a personalized one-week itinerary that went beyond our expectations. She handled all aspects of our trip with a professional , low-key manner. The hotels were outstanding and dining was authentic. The luxury vehicle was very comfortable to travel in as well. Starting with our first day with Emily, she was a godsend, don de Dieu! We were stranded at the train station in Carcassone, due to a train strike, and the overloaded trains. Emily found an amiable driver with a 9 passenger van, who took us to Nimes, where Emiy met us. From then on, we knew we were in good hands.
Every detail of our trip was handled so beautifully, our accommodations, our dining, our tours of the ancient cities and villages. And our wonderful cooking class in Uzès. I cannot wait to return to beautiful Provence.

Wine Tour, September 2021
What a beautiful day with Emily and Your Private Provence wine tour. Having been to the region before, two friends and I were interested in a deeper dive into what made this region so well suited for wine. She really listened to our interests and designed a really fun, insightful and rich day. We honestly expected a driver to just drop us off at several wineries and got so much more. Loved the cultural and geological history, the insights of a local to life in Provence, and a diverse sampling of the region’s best varietals. As someone who creates custom travel workshops, I look forward to working with Emily again! She can customize a variety of tour experiences from one day to a full weeklong adventure. July Lavender & Photography Tour 2021
I have recently returned from the Provence Lavender Photography Tour with Emily Durand of Your Private Provence and Raina Stinson of Raina Stinson Photography. I highly recommend this tour! Simply put, Emily and Raina guided our small group on a remarkable journey of discovery. We visited lavender fields, explored medieval villages, gazed at the moon and stars. We feasted on fresh produce and French bread from the village markets as well as gourmet fare at restaurants with breathtaking views.
We drank in the perfume of the lavender and the Spanish broom. We foraged for herbs and flowers on the steep hillsides of the stunning medieval village of Brantes to make a delectable lunch that we savored on a terrace built into the rocky slope overlooking spectacular Mont Ventoux. We reveled in the stimulating conversation spurred by the incredible kinship we developed with fellow travelers–new-found friends.
And in every part of our amazing adventure, under Raina’s expert tutelage, we experimented with different ways to document in photographs the story of our journey. On reflection, I am reminded of a quote from Marcel Proust: “The real voyage of discovery consists of not seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”

I just returned from a small-group tour organized and hosted by Emily Durand of Your Private Provence and Raina Stinson of Raina Stinson Photography.
I’ve traveled to France often and this is, by far, the best guided experience I have ever had there The focus of this tour was lavender in bloom and photography, but I’m very confident that touring with Emily in Provence would be EXCEPTIONAL no matter what the focus were. Here are some highlights of the experience:
- All logistics, accommodations and meals were handled by Emily, from arrival to departure. That’s a real treat! Nothing to worry about!
- Beautiful, charming b&b that felt very private, had perfect owner/hosts, lovely breakfasts and great views.
- FANTASTIC choices by Emily of restaurants (and a chef’s private home) for our lunches and dinners, exposing us to the cuisine of different villages in the area, some restaurants with breathtaking mountain landscape views from our table! Each meal was unique and highlighted local, in-season elements, and EVERY menu selection exceeded my expectations.
- Unique, local daily experiences, including a mountain-top astronomical Observatory trip, foraging in a quaint village for fresh herbs, veggies, fruits and flowers for a private, Chef-prepared lunch in the chef’s home, a private tour of a lavender farm and distillery, and much more!
- Extraordinary photo-taking venues on our schedule every day, with continuous hands-on guidance from Raina about looking for great shots, framing shots, setting our cameras and iphones (yes, iphones!) for the best shots and then using editing apps to maximize the impact of our photos. My confidence in my ability to take exceptional photos has grown exponentially!
Many thanks to Emily and Raina! I wouldn’t dream of returning to Provence without first connecting with them.
July Lavender Tour 2021
A traveler is always faced with this secret dilemma…..once you have experienced the perfect tour, in the perfect place, arranged by the perfect host, do you tell the world or do you try and keep it a secret just a while longer?
Such is my dilemma having just returned from that “perfect” week in Provence. I have decided to be magnanimous and share. After all, the world needs as much “perfect” as it can find right now.
Emily’s Private Provence could just as easily be named Emily’s Perfect Provence. Delight in her itineraries, pour over the possibilities and once you commit to the trip know that you will not be disappointed. The food, the pace, the accommodations, the history, the little surprises, the attention to details, the sights and sounds and most enjoyably, the people of Provence, will all be there for you to enjoy. You will have not just visited a place for a week, you will have lived it and that is a next level experience. I’m confident, you will return home contemplating the same dilemma… “share or not to share?”

10-Day Road Trip through all of Provence, 2021 – Hiking tour everyday!
Our guided trip with Emily was different from the typical tour of Provence. We wanted the trip to mostly involve hiking, but still give us an opportunity to spend some time in small villages. Each day we hiked somewhere and in the evening we were on our own to explore the various towns we stayed in. Provence is a wonderful place to hike. In the north it looks similar to Colorado with exceptional scenery. Emily appeared to know every trail. We avoided the “tourist” areas, usually hiking without seeing another hiker. For example, we did not visit Pont du Gard through the visitor center. We intersected the aqueduct some distance from the river, following the ruins through a tunnel, past the quarry where the rock was removed and then arrived at the river and spectacular view of Pont du Gard. Then we had a picnic lunch under an ancient olive tree.
We were delighted the wild flowers were still abundant in mid June. And we enjoyed the wonderful people we met wandering about towns in the evenings, including someone that rang the cathedral bells in a town where we stayed. Speaking of bells, we learned that a cathedral bell that had been cast the day before was to be taken from the mold and rung for the first time. As a demonstration of the flexibility of an Emily guided vacation, she took us to the event and it was grand.
Emily worked tirelessly to customize our time in Provence to suit our interests. All the stressful things we find about traveling she took care of. It was great. Emily is great. Take a trip with her. It will be a success if you tell her the kind of Provence experience you are looking for.

4-Day Private Tour, May 2021
Despite being a frequent traveler, I am not a usual writer of reviews. But this case, deserves one. My wife and myself just spent 5 days in French Provence. This trip was our first to this gorgeous part of France. We were suggested various tour operators. Finally chose the person I will describe for the speed and care she devoted during the pre-engagement phase, very different from the others.
If you are looking to visit the region and wanting a guide that really knows the place and its intense history, is flexible to suit your needs and wishes on the go (in my specific case that included drone flying), is punctual and manages timing without rushing, provides immediate answers during the planning phase and during the tour (early mornings, late evenings, 7 days a week), can drive with utmost care, does great photography to complement yours, and is “super sympa”, the person to provide all of the above is Emily Durand, an American expat that has been living in the region for more than 25 years.
Because Emily is all the above (and more), you will miss her when your Provence visit is over (and regret you did not stay more). A final clarification: While American citizens will feel they are taken care by an American member of their family, that is in no way reserved to guests who come from America. We are proud citizens of a European and a South American country, and Emily provided us with that family feeling.

We thoroughly loved your tour! Every day was packed with fun things to see and do and we were also given free time to explore on our own or just relax a little. 2-Day Tour June, 2019
Nick and I had a wonderful two days touring Provence with Emily! She is just EXCEPTIONAL!!! Such a darling personality, a definite understanding of the history and culture of this region and such a nice way about her—she seems more a friend than a tour guide! We plan to stay in touch with Emily because we liked her so much! Emily asked us about our preferences and interests so she could design an itinerary which was customized just for us. We spent the day together touring different villages, had delicious lunches, were given expert historical or cultural backgrounds, and were also taken to shops specializing in treasures to bring home (depending on our interests and desires).
Emily transferred us from our hotel and back in a luxury Mercedes van and was an excellent driver/navigator. Everything was completely organized and the tour was on a relaxed but specific time schedule. Emily is the PERFECT tour guide, and we would definitely use her again and recommend her to friends!

2019 Lavender Tour
If you want the best tour of Provence, choose Emily as your guide. My husband and I enjoyed this years Lavender and Cultural Tour so much that the day before it ended I signed up to bring my 2 daughters next year! As a local Emily knows the history of the towns we visited as well as the best places to explore, eat and shop. She has a nice group of friends – chef Giuseppina cooked a delicious lunch and Raina took beautiful photos of my husband and I in the lavender fields. There were so many highlights – the food, the scenery and the company. We enjoyed our group of 8 so much- a lot of laughing and storytelling.
My husband and I are seasoned travelers so maybe hard to impress but we give Emily every star possible in a rating. Life is short, go to Provence with Emily as your guide.

2019 Lavender Tour
2019 Lavender Tour This tour exceeded all of my expectations! The small group size made it easy for us to get to know each other and each day was such a treat! Emily shared not only her love and knowledge of her adopted country but afforded us a glimpse into life in Provence. She introduced us to local chefs, farmers, and artisans and each was colorful and engaging and passionate about their chosen profession and excited to share with us. I recently visited Provence on a Lavender Tour with Your Private Provence. Emily Durand, the owner of the company, was the tour guide and driver for the small group of seven women. She was absolutely a perfect guide! I have traveled extensively and have had many tour guides over the years, so I can say confidently that Emily is exceptional. Her years living in Provence provide the expertise she needed to introduce us to this enchanting area, and her years growing up as a young woman in Oregon helped us understand the subtleties of French life. She bridges the two cultures with ease. Emily really went out of her way to customize the tour for us. During our tour when she discovered that I was a potter, she arranged for us to visit a female potter’s studio near the B & B. Emily is professional in her job and yet her easy, relaxed manner helped us all feel welcome and comfortable. Her Lavender Tour was the most perfectly designed tour that I have ever experienced. She put much thought into everything, not just the lavender viewing, but the meals and the daily excursions as well. Every day was different and interesting. The charming B & B she chose was perfect also. This was truly the perfect lavender tour with the perfect private guide. Traveling doesn’t get any better than this!!!

April, 2019 3-Day Tour
I’m so thrilled that I found Emily as she added so much value to our 8 night trip to Provence. We hired Emily to assist with our transfers and added touring to our transfer days… Brilliant Plan! In the end we hired Emily for 3 of our 8 days.
She is extremely honest, reliable and her prices are very fair. She accepts credit cards and does everything possible to ensure your comfort. Emily picked us up at Marseille Airport and transferred us to our AirBNB in St. Remy. She organized a unique and magical picnic and generously offered to procure essential groceries as we arrived on a French Holiday and she knew the markets would be closed. We chose to explore St. Remy on our own, but Emily supported us with recommendations for restaurants and hikes. After 4 nights in St. Remy, Emily picked us up and toured us around Avignon and Gigondas, where we did a beautiful hike together. She then transferred us and our luggage to Gordes for the next 3 nights.
Emily is so knowledgeable about the history of the region, but more importantly she is really a great driver. She has a beautiful Mercedes 8- passenger van that is very comfortable and safe. Emily is happy to customize trips to individual needs and I would highly recommend her and would absolutely work with her again.

Provence over 10 Days – April 2019 
We had found Emily Durand on the web and had a wonderful time corresponding with her while preparing a detailed itinerary based upon our interests and requirements. She was very prompt and very precise in her responses which we liked very much.
She was even more pleasant in person and we throughly enjoyed spending ten days with her in Provence. She knew the area very well including hotels/B and Bs, restaurants ( my wife is vegetarian but that was no problem for Emily!), parking and getting to the sights we were interested in etc. She gave us a good understanding of the history, culture, architecture as well as “stories and myths” of each of the areas that we visited. She was excellent in finding alternatives if we did not like something or wanted to change something in our itinerary and this was very much appreciated! Having Emily drive us around in her Benz van freed us to observe the scenic beauty and historical sights of Provence without the distraction or tension of driving.
Overall, we have absolutely no hesitation in whole-heartedly recommending Emily and have already done so to our friends in the USA.

Lavender Tour July 2018
We recently returned from France and wish to leave a few comments on our experience.
At the top of my bucket list is a visit to Provence France. My husband and I are not world travelers and were somewhat hesitant about this trip, we were anxious about almost everything, the language, the travel and the fact that we were in a foreign country. Despite all these concerns we bite the bullet and decided to go for it. We booked a package with My Private Provence.
Much to our surprise and delight, the experience could not have been better. We experienced Provence as if we were locals and had been living there all our lives. This experience will stay with us forever. Never have we been able to enjoy a vacation as we have on this visit.
We were very happy to see so much of Provence and sample the food and its people.
Our tour group was only made up of seven people. Such a small group allowed us to fit right in with our visits to the many villages. A small group is great, but none of this could have occurred without our tour guide, Emily.
Emily was born in the US and has been living in Provence for 22 years. She helped us with all aspects of our visit. She knows the places of interest and knows the best times to visit these places. She speaks French fluently, so we had no problem with communications.
I highly recommend using Your Private Provence if you are contemplating a visit to this area.

I used Emily through Your Private Provence to help me plan my small wedding/elopement and tours for my family while we were in the area.
The experience went so smoothly in the amazing hands of Emily. She offered several options from vendors for the ceremony, restaurant choices, lodging, and tours throughout the Provence region. Our group consisted of six women and one very brave gentleman with of a wide range of ages, backgrounds, personalities, and abilities. We toured the historic Chateauneuf Du Pape. We visited a Winery, Alain Jaume & Fils, sampled several different wines to include one of the Chateauneuf Du Pape wines and had a full course meal (which was unexpected)… So much delicious food. Toured Le Chateau du Bois, Lavender oil is processed, where I bought a bottle of essential oil for the first time in my life. But the highlight of my trip, the chef! Giuseppina, a beautiful soul from the time we stepped into her home, welcoming and bright. Never did I expect such hospitality! And the food was AMAZING.
There are so many things I can say about this trip, the people, the history, and the food… it can go on forever! Emily is the ever patient tour guide, always offered us wine and food, the best friend you could take anywhere and never feel left out. I feel we will book again, next time I would bring my daughter along.

We had a great trip with Emily and highly recommend her. Before we arrived, she had designed a lovely tour of Provence villages just for us. Attentive to our interests and needs, she crafted an adventure that was a highlight of a trip to France and Italy.
In several days, she introduced us to the history of these hill towns, the beauty of the rural landscape, and the feel of markets, twisty streets, churches, and Van Gogh’s world. Though we saw a good deal, she also made time for little matters, too, browsing a field of poppies, sipping a cup of coffee during an unexpected downpour, and sitting on a wall to sketch and feel the spirit of a place.
Best of all, she was congenial, thoughtful, open, and just good to be with, adding such a human touch to our little stay in Provence. We loved it! (There was NO way we could have rented a car, navigated our way around – especially with parking – found a hotel and restaurants, and enjoyed ourselves as much without her.) We missed her company when we got on a train in Avignon to continue our journey.

The beautiful, relaxed culture of Provence makes it an ideal vacation spot for first-time guests and return visitors alike.

A week in Provence – October 2017
As we contemplated our first visit to Provence to identify a village that we might return to for an extended stay, we wanted to slow travel through several small villages with nearby vineyards.
Prior to our trip, Emily created a customized itinerary to best meet our interests and needs. To start our week together, Emily met us at the train station and then proceeded to comfortably drive us through the 2-lane backroads of Provence helping us to discover the magical villages of Provence, the crafts, and the wonderful food and wine. Emily also made delightful and comfortable housing arrangements in a small inn over a renown restaurant and in a chateau.
Through her US network of friends, Emily provided us with a glimpse into the expatriate lifestyle in Provence and helped us think through the optimal expatriate experience. The ease of having your very own guide, driver, concierge, historian, interpreter, photographer, and medical emergency handler was invaluable. And, by the time we left Provence, we felt as though Emily was a member of our family!

Family Reunion Lavender Tour, June 2017
I spent time on Google and found Emily’s Lavender Tours. Not wanting to drive this time around, Emily seemed to be the perfect solution. I wanted to spend some time in Sault, the lavender capital of Provence, as well as showing my family all Provence has to offer since most had never been there: Roman ruins, beautiful hill towns and incredible scenery, markets and lovely villages, castles and flowing rivers. For my first time in Provence I decided to hire a guide. It’s not something I normally do but I didn’t want to be bothered with driving and trying to find my way on my own. I didn’t want to waste precious time because I had so little there.
We had several conversations via email in advance of my visit about what my interests are and what I wanted to get out of my time with her. Emily showed me some wonderful places for photos and a little off the beaten path Abbey that was a lovely way to end the day. That was after she wore my butt out hiking to the top of the hill in Lacoste where the ruins of the chateau of the Marquis du Sade watch over the village below.
Our day was partly planned and partly improvised which was perfect for me. I think next time I’d like to tag along on one of her lavender tours for a fun, fresh and energetic view of Provence. Emily was the perfect guide.
